About the AFS in Africa Center

The AFS in Africa Center is a virtual hub aggregating information and resources to expand access to global exchange opportunities for African youth, young adults and educators.

Africa’s population is projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050, with more than a third of the world’s young people living on the continent. As one of the world’s leading youth exchange organizations, AFS has launched the AFS in Africa Center to serve as a centralized platform where African youth and educators can explore and apply for AFS programs that foster intercultural learning, global competence, and leadership development regardless of whether AFS has an official presence in their country.

Please explore each of the opportunities presented and available below.

In-Person High School Exchange Programs

AFS has more than 75 years of experience of running high school exchange programs around the world. Teens can study at a high school in a new country, make new friends, learn a new language, live with a host family, and become an active global citizen. At the same time, AFS host families experience world culture at home, see their kids thrive, and grow together as global citizens. These programs are supported by volunteers and are all about personal growth, cultural exploration, active global citizenship and belonging.

High School Exchange Programs are available in the following countries where AFS is present (see the list below). If you are not from one of these countries, please check with the closest AFS office to you if you can apply for the program.
